CanvasGAN: A simple baseline for text to image generation by incrementally patching a canvas

We propose a new recurrent generative model for generating images from text captions while attending on specific parts of text captions. Our model creates images by incrementally adding patches on a "canvas" while attending on words from text caption at each timestep. Finally, the canvas is passed through an upscaling network to generate images. We also introduce a new method for generating visual-semantic sentence embeddings based on self-attention over text. We compare our model's generated images with those generated Reed et. al.'s model and show that our model is a stronger baseline for text to image generation tasks.Comment: CVC 201

Two important things that must be paid attention in trading company, that is about inventory control management and commodity distribution management to all customer. Inventory model happened when needed by stock to fulfill demand during specified period. Practically often happened those demands represent an uncertainty value. At this writing, is used by model of EOQ in inventory control management so that the amount of ordered goods and ordering time could be optimal where inventory component total cost become minimum. Distribution commodity management to customer taken effects in with the problem of service to customer where each customer expected served better.Used of method of saving in determining route for the V of vehicle, expected that total of routes length all V vehicles of minimum. In this method of constraint that must be paid attention is vehicle capacities constraint

States of Local Moment Induced by Nonmagnetic Impurities in Cuprate Superconductors

By using a model Hamiltonian with d-wave superconductivity and competing antiferromagnetic (AF) orders, the local staggered magnetization distribution due to nonmagnetic impurities in cuprate superconductors is investigated. From this, the net magnetic moment induced by a single or double impurities can be obtained. We show that the net moment induced by a single impurity corresponds to a local spin with S_z=0, or 1/2 depending on the strength of the AF interaction and the impurity scattering. When two impurities are placed at the nearest neighboring sites, the net moment is always zero. For two unitary impurities at the next nearest neighboring sites, and at sites separated by a Cu-ion site, the induced net moment has S_z=0, or 1/2, or 1. The consequence of these results on experiments will be discussed.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Study of in vitro transcriptional binding effects and noise using constitutive promoters combined with UP element sequences in Escherichia coli

Background UP elements (upstream element) are DNA sequences upstream of a promoter that interact with the α-subunit of RNA polymerase (RNAP) and can affect transcription by altering the binding RNAP to DNA. However, details of UP element and binding affinity effects on transcriptional strength are unclear. Results Here, we investigated the effects of UP element sequences on gene transcription, binding affinity, and gene expression noise. Addition of UP elements resulted in increased gene expression (maximum 95.7-fold increase) and reduced gene expression noise (8.51-fold reduction). Half UP element sequences at the proximal subsite has little effect on transcriptional strength despite increasing binding affinity by 2.28-fold. In vitro binding assays were used to determine dissociation constants (Kd) and in the in vitro system, the full range of gene expression occurs in a small range of dissociation constants (25 nM \u3c Kd \u3c 45 nM) indicating that transcriptional strength is highly sensitive to small changes in binding affinity. Conclusions These results demonstrate the utility of UP elements and provide mechanistic insight into the functional relationship between binding affinity and transcription. Given the centrality of gene expression via transcription to biology, additional insight into transcriptional mechanisms can foster both fundamental and applied research. In particular, knowledge of the DNA sequence-specific effects on expression strength can aid in promoter engineering for different organisms and for metabolic engineering to balance pathway fluxes

Compressibility of Interacting Electrons in Bilayer Graphene

Using the renormalized-ring-diagram approximation, we study the compressibility of the interacting electrons in bilayer graphene. The compressibility is equivalent to the spin susceptibility apart from a constant factor. The chemical potential and the compressibility of the electrons can be significantly altered by an energy gap (tunable by external gate voltages) between the valence and conduction bands. For zero gap and a typical finite gap in the experiments, we show both systems are stable.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figure

Absence of broken inversion symmetry phase of electrons in bilayer graphene under charge density fluctuations

On a lattice model, we study the possibility of existence of gapped broken inversion symmetry phase (GBISP) of electrons with long-range Coulomb interaction in bilayer graphene using both self-consistent Hartree-Fock approximation (SCHFA) and the renormalized-ring-diagram approximation (RRDA). RRDA takes into account the charge-density fluctuations beyond the mean field. While GBISP at low temperature and low carrier concentration is predicted by SCHFA, we show here the state can be destroyed by the charge-density fluctuations. We also present a numerical algorithm for calculating the self-energy of electrons with the singular long-range Coulomb interaction on the lattice model.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure

Study of two-dimensional electron systems in the renormalized-ring-diagram approximation

With a super-high-efficient numerical algorithm, we are able to self-consistently calculate the Green's function in the renormalized-ring-diagram approximation for a two-dimensional electron system with long-range Coulomb interactions. The obtained ground-state energy is found to be in excellent agreement with that of the Monte Carlo simulation. The numerical results of the self-energy, the effective mass, the distribution function, and the renormalization factor of the Green's function for the coupling constants in the range 0≤rs≤300 \le r_s \le 30 are also presented.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure

First Author Advantage: Citation Labeling in Research

Citations among research papers, and the networks they form, are the primary object of study in scientometrics. The act of making a citation reflects the citer's knowledge of the related literature, and of the work being cited. We aim to gain insight into this process by studying citation keys: user-chosen labels to identify a cited work. Our main observation is that the first listed author is disproportionately represented in such labels, implying a strong mental bias towards the first author.Comment: Computational Scientometrics: Theory and Applications at The 22nd CIKM 201
